Islamabad: Geological Survey of Pakistan Director General Dr Imran has said that major earthquakes with 8.6 magnitude intensity on Richter scale may hit major cities of the country.
He was giving briefing to the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Petrolatum here on Monday. Dr Imran said that strong earthquake might hit major cities in the country as they were situated on fault lines.
It is to mention here that a major earthquake measuring 7.6 on the Richter scale hit northern parts of Pakistan on Oct 8,2005, including Azad Jammu Kashmir, Mansehra, Bagh, Rawalakot, killing more than 80,000 people and wracking havoc on infrastructure .
