Islamabad: A new controversy has ignited a few hours after the government issued a notification pertaining to constitution of judicial commission to probe Saleem Shehzad’ killing, with legal experts in Islamabad claiming Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was not consulted in appointing apex court judge Mian Saqib Nisar as commission head.
Legal experts are of the view that the CJ should have been taken into confidence over Nisar’s appointment as a commission head while others say the government is authorized to appoint any of the apex court judge.
The government has been reluctant to form probe commission into Shahzad’s murder since May 29.
The commission was formed after the journalist fraternity staged a sit-in out side the parliament house attended by a large number of journalists, civil society members and leaders of political parties.
