Quetta: Police surgeon who conducted the postmortem of five Chechensm, killed by security personnel in an alleged operation on May 17, was severely tortured in Quetta, capital city of the western province of Pakistan, on late Monday night.
While talking to a private Pakistani TV channel (Geo News), the surgeon, Syed Baqar Shah, said that he was severely beat by several police personnel when he was serving dinner with his friend at Prince Road after collecting some date from a lab.
Shah said at least 10 police vehicle reached the spot and intercepted him, saying he did not act well by passing statement before Kharotabad tribunal against security personnel. He said, ‘they were calling, beat him beat him he is Dr Baqar.”
Baqar Shah was taken to Civil Hospital Quetta for treatment. Later, doctors declared him out of danger.
Shah said he was being punished for speaking the truth in front of public and Kharotabad tribunal. He said no one was secure in this government.
He said my mistake was to inform reality that Chechens were gunned down and some 21 bullets were taken out from their bodies. He would not change his statement which was recorded in before the commission, Dr Baqar vowed.
Dr Baqar demanded to the government to secure the lives of all surgeons who were conducts postmortems.
He said he would go for a judicial inquiry against the incident. He demanded to arrest all involved persons. He said he just wants justice.
He said he could recognize the persons if were presented before him.
Inspector General Police Balochistan Rao Ameen Hashim took the notice of the incident and ensured Dr Shah that inquiry would be carried according to Dr Shah choice. He also assured Dr Shah that involved persons would be brought before justice.
