Islamabad: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and other opposition parties on Tuesday in the Senate staged a walk-out against the nomination of JUI-F’s Maulana Ghafoor Haidri’s nomination as leader of the opposition in the house.
PML-N Chairman Raja Zafarul Haq said the protest would be continued until the decision was withdrawn. Senior PML-N leader and candidate for the slot Ishaq Dar said nine Senator from the government benches voted for Haidri.
Jamat-e-Islami Senator Prof Khursheed Ahmed said his party had no objection over the Haidri’s appointment.
Despite enjoying majority of the opposition parliamentarians in the upper house, PML-N failed to get the slot of Opposition Leader. Political observers view the development as a result of some behind the scene bargaining between the JUI-F and the government.
