Islamabad: Saleem Shehzad’s dead body was found in Head Rasool area of Mandibahuddin who went missing form Islamabad on last Sunday when he was going to participate in a programme of a private TV channel but did not reach the TV station.
Sources said that Shehzad was subjected to severe torture before he was killed as severe wounds and bruises were visible.
His car and identity card was discovered near Sarai Alimgeer area of Jehlum district, some 20 kilometer form the area where his body was found.
He was killed two days ago and buried in the graveyard of area by Edhi, according to the preliminary investigation reports by capital police which received the information through local police.
The journalist’s brother-in law has identified the body on police information. Two CNICs was also recovered from his body in which one is his personal and other belongs to another person, Muddasir Nazir.
Saleem Shahzad was a seasoned journalist who was famous for his investigative stories and analytical features on Taliban, al Qeada and intelligence agencies of Pakistan and different countries for multiple publications and online services.
His close friends said that he had received live threats from unidentified people after he wrote an article on alleged failure of talks between Navy and al Qaeda that followed PNS Mehran naval air station attack in Karachi on May 22 and at least 10 people were killed and two US-supplied P3-C Orian aircrafts were destroyed.
They said that Shahzad was writing a book which could have revealed top-secrets and confidential relationships among Pakistan’s Army, Taliban and Al-Qaeda.
A number of journalists in Pakistan were tortured brutally after they had written against Pakistan’s intelligence agencies and war on terror. Pakistan is one of the dangerous countries for reporters as 11 journalists were killed in separate incidents in 2010 with no follow-up inquiry or police reports were made public.
Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gillani has ordered concerned department for investigation of his murder.
