Karachi: Former Pakistan cricket captain Shahid Khan Afridi has announced retirement from International cricket on late Monday night, expressing disappointment over Pakistan Cricket Board attitude.
According to a private Pakistani News channel (Geo News), Shahid Afridi had some difference with team coach Waqar Younus. PCB removed Afridi from captaincy following the statement that he passed after returning Pakistan from a victorious series against West Indies.
Sources said that Afridi was removed from captaincy on the request of team coach Waqar Younus. Afridi had decided to retire from international cricket when PCB nominated Misbah-ul-Haq captain for the Ireland series.
While talking to Geo News, Shahid Afridi said that he passed statement in favour of Pakistan’s cricket. He said, “ when I am captain of the team, its my responsibility to answer the questions of media.”
He said that everything has a limit, and everyone has a respect. Afridi says, “It is better to take a side instead of receiving insult again and again.”
He said he had not violated the code of conduct of PCB, but just told a truth that everyone should do his own work. He said that job of the team coach is to enhance the ability of team.
Afridi says, “I cannot play under recent cricket board that has no respect for cricketers.” Pakistani team played world cup semifinal in his captaincy, he added.
He says, “till I was made a captain I even did not know that I will be the captain in the next series or not.” He said he was not taken into confidence when team was announced for tour.
Afridi said that a particular lobby had been working in Punjab against him that has been successful. He said if he had done any code of conduct then PCB Chairman Aijaz Butt should asked him that why you passed this statement.
