Karachi: Pakistani security forces arrested on Tuesday an active Al Qaeda operative, Muhammad Ali Qasim Yaqub alias Abu Sohaib Al Makki, from Karachi, the financial of the country.
“According to initial investigations, Al Makki, a Yemeni national, had been working directly under Al Qaeda leaders along Pak-Afghan borders,” the Inter-Services Public Relation said in a statement of on Tuesday.
“The arrest of Al Makki is a major development in unraveling the Al Qaeda network operating in the region,” it said.
The arrest follows a US unilateral operation in the garrison city of Abbottabad, Pakistan on May 2 that killed Al Qaeda Chief Osama Bin Laden and comes after US Senator John Kerry visited Pakistan on Monday to remove a damaging strip caused by the raid.
Pakistan’s civilian and military leaders were embarrassed after the US covert assault in Abottabad both at home and abroad, for different reasons although. While the world condemned their inability to trace Osama, the people at home criticised them for not being able to stop the US operation on Pakistani soil.
