Kabul: Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Thursday demanded a comprehensive probe over the presence of Osama Bin Laden in Pakistan for several years, but ruled out a US-like raid by India to eliminate terrorists wanted by it.
Manmohan Singh, who is on visit of Kabul said, “unique moment” in the history of the region. “One needs to go for a thoroughly investigation into the presence of Osama for such a long time on the Abbottabad soil,” he said
Manmohan Singh reiterated Thursday that he strongly supports the country’s effort to reconcile with the Taliban and said India would help Afghanistan in rebuilding its fractured society.
He said that Delhi would support Kabul to make Afghanistan a prosperous and peaceful country.
“India is your neighbor and partner in development; you can count on us as you build your society, economy and polity.” Singh said.
“We strongly support the Afghan people’s quest for peace and reconciliation,” Singh said. “India supports the unity, integrity and prosperity and Afghanistan.”
Earlier, Singh held talks with Karzai on regional stability, counterterrorism, the India-Afghanistan strategic partnership and post Osama situation in the region.
Indian PM announced a new 500 million dollar aid package for reconstruction of Afghanistan.
India has spent $1.5 billion in Afghanistan to help build highways, hospitals and the electricity grid. It has also helped the Afghan government rebuild its police forces, judiciary and diplomatic services.
