Istanbul: Seventy member group, allegedly formed to create agitation amid protest demonstrations ahead of June’s elections, has been apprehended by the Law Enforcement Agencies.
The group was comprised on Self-Defense Units or OSB, allegedly trained by the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, a US-designated terrorist organization, to take advantage of social unrest and public protests, reported a local newspaper on Sunday.
The miscreants were arrested on Saturday during a swift operation in several cities of Turkey including Istanbul, Batman and Mardin. It was claimed by the police officials that the armed group was recently formed to provoke anarchy in the country.
PKK leader Abdullah Ocalan was leading the group from the jail, he used to deliver his orders through his attorneys, said intelligence reports.
OSB’ role was also believed, behind demonstrations in eastern and southeastern Turkey, which were emerged soon after the Supreme Election Board’s decision regarding to prohibit seven independent Kurdish parliamentary candidates from participating in upcoming elections.
