Islamabad/Washington: The 6th meeting between Pakistan-US defence consultation group would start in Washington from Monday while trio talks among Pakistan, Afghanistan and the US would be held in Islamabad on May 3 on Tuesday.
Sources said would discuss the issue of availability of drone technology to Pakistan. The group would also review the implementation on decisions which were made in earlier meetings.
The needs of country’s armed forces in war against terrorism would also be included in the meeting agenda. The overhauling of Pakistan’s Jet fighters in Turkey would also be discussed in the meeting. Secretary Defense Lt. Gen (Retd) Athar Ali would lead the Pakistani delegation in talks.
On the other hand, Pakistan Ambassador to Washington Hussain Haqqani said that Pakistan-Afghanistan and the US trilateral talks would be held in Islamabad on May 3. Talking to CNN, Hussain Haqqani dismissed the US media assertions on Islamabad advising Kabul against co-operation with the United States.
He said that Pakistan, Afghanistan and the US were working together in coordination and the three countries would be holding talks in Islamabad on May 3 for a resolution of the decade old Afghan war. “Very interestingly, only last week Ambassador Grossman (US special envoy for the region) and Pakistan’s foreign secretary (Salman Bashir) agreed that they are going to try and create a trilateral mechanism. They are having a meeting in Islamabad on the 3rd of May,” Haqqani added.
