Berlin: German police arrested three suspects of Al-Qaeda, a terrorist organization, and they will be presented before an investigating judge on Saturday, authorities said Friday.
Public Prosecutor General in a brief statement said, “The accused will be presented before the investigating judge of the Federal Court of Justice on Saturday.”
The statement did not release further details of the suspects’ gender, nationality, or where they were arrested.
Deputy Federal Prosecutor Rainer Griesbaum and Federal Police chief Jorg Ziercke would hold a press conference on this case on Saturday, the statement added.
While, German mass-circulation newspaper Bild reported that all three were Moroccans and arrested in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia on Friday morning, after police monitored them on mobile phone and internet for some time and find things suspicious.
The German government beefed up its security level since November after receiving evidence that Al-Qaeda might plan to launch Mumbai-like attacks in Britain, France and Germany. In February, German Interior Ministry said the security alert would be gradually scaled back.
In November 2008, ten armed militants struck two hotels and seized hostages in India’s largest city Mumbai, killing 166 people and injuring more than 300.
