Washington: At least 1,424 United States military personnel have been killed in Afghanistan as a result of the US invasion in late 2001, Associated Press reported.
The AP count is three more than the US Defense Department’s tallied till Tuesday.
At least 1,174 military service members have lost their lives in Afghanistan during hostile action, according to the military’s numbers.
The US department reports at least 99 members of the US military died in support of Operation Enduring Freedom out side Afghanistan. Of those, 11 were the result of hostile action. Total OEF casualties outside of Afghanistan counted by the news agency is three fewer than the department’s tally.
The Defense Department also counts two military civilian deaths.
According to the US Defense Department, Since the start of US military operations in Afghanistan, 10,944 US military service members have been wounded in hostile action.
