Kinshasa: At least 26 people have lost their lives in a United Nations plane crashed while it was landing at the Kinshasa airport of the Republic of Congo on Monday. 10, a UN source said.
“The plane landed heavily, broke into two pieces and caught fire,” the source said on the condition of anonymity. The plane was coming from Goma in the east, the source added.
Sixteen bodies were found Monday while 10 other bodies were recovered later on Monday late night and Tuesday.
The sources said the cause of the incident was not immediately known. There were reportedly 32 passengers at the time of the crash.
There were around 19,000 peacekeeping troopers in Congo to protect the lives of people of the country.
