Islamabad:The Supreme Court on Thursday observed that curbing casting of bogus votes was the responsibility Election Commission of Pakistan.
A bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry hared a petition challenging voter lists moved by a senior journalist.
The CJ remarked that the SC in 2007 had ordered to prepare precise voter lists, however it have not been prepared till now.
Justice Sair Ali remarked if half of the voters would be fake than what would be the credibility of elections.
The CJ said that the ECP had been conducting polls on the basis of bogus votes and 2008 had also been conducted on the same lists.
He remarked that the court should not be compelled to ask about the credibility of the incumbent assemblies.
The CJ further said that recent by polls in Dera Ghazi Khan were also held on the same voter’s lists.
ECP secretary argued that precise voter lists could not be prepared without Computerised Identity Cards.
Nadra’s counsel Afnan Kundi told the court that computerisd data of more than 800 million voters have been handed over to the ECP.
