Islamabad: A delegation of Pakistan’s Senate Foreign Relations Committee, led by its Chairman, Senator Salim Saifullah Khan, left for Kabul on a 3-day visit on the invitation of Afghan High Peace Council and International Affairs Committee of Afghan Senate.
The delegation proposes to discuss the entire gamut of bilateral relations in the context of regional situation. The role of parliaments to further the progress of peace and stability and promotion of friendly and fraternal ties between Pakistan and Afghanistan – political, cultural, trade, commerce etc. will be the dominant themes. The delegation is scheduled to meet President Hamid Karzai, Chairman Senate Prof. Sibghatullah Mujaddadi, Prof. Burhanuddin Rabbani, Chairman, Afghan High Peace Council, Foreign Minister Zalmai Rasoul and Speaker National Assembly besides other dignitaries and political personalities.
The Senate delegation comprises Senators Salim Saifullah Khan, Nayyer Hussain Bukhari, Wasim Sajjad, Jehangir Bader, Afrasiab Khattak, Haji Adeel, Sughra Imam, Abbas Afridi & Lt Col Khalid Munir. The visit has been sponsored by Hanns-Seidel Foundation of Germany.
Political observers attach great importance to the visit in the context of the present regional situation and relations with Afghanistan. The delegation will arrive at Kabul Airport on March 12, 2011.
