Lima: More than 100 people were injured, out of them 12 critically injured when a metal platform of a football stadium collapsed in Lima, Peru, rescue workers said.
The accident occurred during a match at the big Estadio Monumental operated by the Club Universitario de Deportes.
Alfonso Panizo, a spokesperson for the fire department, estimated that 100 children and adults were taken to hospitals after falling from the platform.
Earlier, a health official said 53 people were hospitalised when the metalic structure in the ground collapsed.
One witness told RPP radio that the platform appeared to collapse from excess weight. The witness said a large crowd was attending the Copa Crema youth cup match.
