Kandahar: Three people including two policemen were killed and another 26 injured on Saturday in an attack by the Taliban on police headquarters in Kandahar.
Unknown assailants attacked a wedding hall and opened fire on the police building.
The Taliban claimed responsibility, saying six of its men were holed up in a wedding hall over the road from the police office in the strategically vital city that is also the militants’ stronghold.
Zalmai Ayubi, a spokesman for the governor of Kandahar, confirmed that shots had been fired at the police headquarters.
A spokesman for the Taliban, Yousuf Ahmadi, told a news agency “A team of our friends consisting of six men has entered the Zarnegar hall and have taken it under control.” He added that the team had attacked the police headquarters with heavy weaponry.
