Mumbai Bombay High Court will announce on February 21 the judgment on confirmation of death penalty awarded to Pakistani terrorist Ajmal Kasab in 26/11 terror attack case and also on his appeal against conviction, news agencies reported on Monday.
The court will also announce verdict on state government’s appeal against the acquittals of alleged Lashkar operatives Fahim Ansari and Sabahuddin Ahmed by the 26/11 trial court.
Public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam had justified the death sentence awarded to Kasab, saying he was a part of the 10-member group which planned and executed the terror strikes on Mumbai which claimed 166 persons. He argued that the strikes were nothing but a proxy war at the behest of Lashkar-e-Taiba which had hatched a conspiracy on Pakistani soil.
He said Kasab, the lone surviving terrorist, was completely involved from the planning till the execution of the conspiracy and the trial judge had correctly sentenced him to death.
