Khairrpur: At least 18 people,including children and women, were killed and another 3 injured when a passenger bus and a truck collided head-on near Tando Masti, here on Saturday.
Motorway police and the locals rushed to the spot and were busy in relief activities.
The dead and injured were being taken to nearby hospitals. Police sources said that more casualties were feared in the accident.
Police said that a truck carrying coal collided with a bus, killing 18 and injuring several, adding that efforts were underway to release trapped passengers.
Television reports said the incident occurred on Ghambat Bypass near Khairpur city when a van, carrying 21 passengers, collided with a truck coming from the front, killing 18 people on the spot, including women and children.
The reports said that rescue operation was not immediately launched as officials and authorities concerned remained unaware of the incident and could not reach the scene timely. However, people travelling on the road shifted the injured their vehicles.
