When he left Damascus he has none to support him but his four year old son, who was clinging to his shoulder. None of his family could survive the carnage Abul Abbass brought to their palaces and abodes. He had nothing of material importance but a pleasant face that did not lost freshness and elegance in spite of the worst situation he was part of.
Being chased by Abbasi army, he left Syria. With his son on his shoulder he was looking for some place to live safely. For Abbasis it was impossible to let live a prince, who happened to be the grandson of slain Caliph Marwan. The prince met Amirs of small emirates, governors of different cities but no one of them was able to give shelter to a stranded member of their masters’ family.
He decided to get out of the boundaries of Abbasi Caliphate and joined a caravan. Twenty two year old young father and a four year son with hardly any money remained unnoticed among their fellow travelers, unless they heard a voice calling his name.
He could not move due to the shock he received from the apparent fact that his enemies were on his head. When the caller came near, the prince could not recognize him. The stranger introduced himself as Bader, a slave whom Marwan has freed on something he did to his delighted. After greeting the prince on their survival, the slave handed over a few animals laden with jewelry and gold.
Bader told the prince that his otherwise weak grandfather has banked all that wealth to him for rainy days and told him to hand over it to his posterity if found in problem. Here began a great friendship that would last and bear fruits in years to come.
The prince could not find any place in the world to hide but a desert of North Africa where he could hope for being safe. The journey began and two young men with a child reached among the Berbers; the semi savage nation of Africa.
His money and Bader’s relations with the tribes help the stranded prince a lot to settle down. Never forgetting the slaughter he had seen on the hands of the Abbasis, he focused his attention to assembling tribes around him. He had not much to offer but could assure them victory. He did not yet disclose any objective to achieve. A prince who would have been spoiled like his forefathers if he had lived in the palace of Damascus. Desert demanded vigor and courage, the prince had it. Weakness and death were synonymous for Berbers; he showed his courage to endorse.
The prince was on of those few who are born to rule. He eyed Spain, trained Berbers, crossed the sea and attacked. He did not have enough boats to burn but could not help his longing to conquer and rule. With a throne under his feet, he was going to be father of a new dynasty though he had to loose his son soon after. Spain was destined to be the most progressive and developed part of the world.
His was thrown out of his cozy life, his family was slain, assassins used to be on his heels, his son was lost; nothing could move him from his resolve and resoluteness but Bader did it.
Bader was made commander of the army, a slave of yesterday was said to be the most powerful person in Spain. One day, instigated by his wife that he was the architect of new dynasty and was being ignored, he took his loyal army to rebel against the grandson of his master. He was defeated and brought to the King.
Shocked by Bader’s rebellion, he could not forget Bader’s friendship. He opted to be the only King in the history who had forgiven a rebel. Bader was the first rebel who pleaded to be beheaded. King won and Bader lived but went out of the country to the darkness of history.
He never forgot his homeland and date trees. He ordered one from abroad and put it in the foreign soils of Spain. He was not alone anymore; the date tree was his friend from motherland. Both were impatient both on being out of their lands, both perished away in 770s A.D.
History knows this prince and king as Abdur Rahman Al Dakhil (conqueror). Do such people need a name to be known?
