Have your grandmother ever advised you to have ‘Joshanda’, when you have cough or sneeze? Have your ever taken Joshana? To boil some leaf, petals, herbs, etc in water and drink the juice is a prescription in Tib-e-Unani to treat cough with sneeze.
Tib-e-Unai is the method or system of treatment having its roots in Greek. Tib-e-Unai is a traditional medicinal practice based on the use of plants, plants extracts and herbs for treatment of different illness. This method of treatment has been very effective.-By Tabiba Sajeela Mehar
The opponent of the method of treatment criticized it for its gradual effect and impact. But it is quite natural, as the diseases one suffers don’t surface at one. So, criticism on the grounds that it does not have immediate effect or slow or gradual impact is uncalled for. Tib-e-Unani is called to be the mother of all systems/methods of treatment or medicinal practices, as it has roots dating back to prehistoric era. Being ancient does not mean that it is not effective system of treatment in today’s world. But it is a system of treatment with least negative affects or impacts. The most important thing in Tib-e-Unani is that the practitioners must be expert, recognized and certified. In this system, the success of treatment heavily depended on exact diagnosis of the disease and right kind of medicine’s prescription and Perhaiez (to avoid some thing) . Perhaiz is very crucial in this system of treatment and if some one strictly observes Perhaiz, he will quickly recover without any negative or side effects.
For getting treatment in Tib, you must have faith and confidence that what kind of treatment your are getting will be beneficial for you. In Tib-e-Uani, for diagnosis of an illness, checking pulse on wrist is one of the methods besides the modern diagnostic methods. It is a very inexpensive and effective method to diagnose illness or diseases. But it doesn’t not mean that the modern methods of diagnosis are not used in Tib.
Many medicine used in Tib are part of our kitchen, but their accurate use and exact combination for preparing medicine make a difference. Some time even the way we use these herbs also change its impact. For example, if u take Joshanda by boiling in water its impact will be different from that when you take it without boiling.
This system of treatment will be beneficial for you only when you will have complete trust in the practitioner and the system of treatment.
The most important thing to remember regarding this system of treatment is that the practitioner (Hakeem) must be a recognized practitioner and has a kind and caring nature. Besides, the medicine must have been prepared properly, strictly observing the pre-requisites and other conditionality.
This was a short introduction of Tib-e-Unai and if you are interested in this method of treatment and want to benefit from it then wait for next column and we will be telling you the fascinating impact of herbal (Unani) medicines.
