Islamabad: In a bid to promote parliamentary diplomacy between Pakistan and India, an informal and unofficial parliamentarians dialogue is planned to be held in Islamabad, Pakistan on January 06-07, 2011.
A 10-member Indian delegation of MPs belonging to Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha (lower and upper house of Indian Parliament) will engage in a dialogue with their Pakistani counterparts on different issues of mutual interest and concern that impact the relationship of Pakistan and India.
The initiative, undertaken by Pakistan Institute of Legislative Development and Transparency –PILDAT, an unofficial independent Pakistani think tank, is meant to facilitate parliamentarians on both sides to engage and interact with each other on issues of mutual concern.
Senator S M Zafar from Pakistan and former Indian Foreign Minister Yashwat Sinha from India would co-chair the dialogue. The other members of the Indian delegation are Mani Shankar Aiyar, Vijay Darda, Naznin Faruque, Shatrughan Sinha, Assaduddin Owaisi, Tathagata Satpathy, Pradeep Majhi, Madhu Goud Yaskhi, and Harish Choudhary.
The parliamentarians joining the dialogue from Pakistan are Jan Mohammad Jamali, Faisal Karim Kundi, Nayyar Hussain Bukhari, Jahangir Badar, Waseem Sajjad, Salim Saifullah Khan, Ilyas Bilour, Dr Donya Aziz, Khurram Dastagir Khan, Lt. Gen (Retd) Abdul Qadir Baloch, Muhammad Baligh-ur-Rehman, Senator Haroon Akhtar Khan and Syeda Sugra Imam.
Former foreign ministers of Pakistan, Khurshid Mahmud Kasuri and Sartaj Aziz, along with former Federal Minister Javed Jabbar will be special guests at the dialogue.
There is no fixed agenda of the dialogue and the participants will themselves decide what issues they would like to discuss and in what order.
Due to three-day mourning following the murder of Governor Punjab Salman Taseer, all social programmes relating to the dialogue will be held in a simple manner.
