WASHINGTON: The youngest son of deposed Shah of Iran, Ali Reza Pahlavi committed suicide on Tuesday morning at his house in Boston, said a family statement.
Pahlavi, 44, had been living in the United States since his teenage when the Islamic revolution of 1979 was on its peak and his father Mohammad Reza Pahlavi was expelled.
Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, Pahlavi’s brother who confirmed the death wrote on his website “It is with immense grief that we would like to inform our compatriots of the passing away of Prince Ali Reza Pahlavi.”
“Like millions of young Iranians, he too was deeply disturbed by all the ills fallen upon his beloved homeland, as well as carrying the burden of losing a father and a sister in his young life,” Reza Pahlavi wrote.
It was not immediately clear cause of the death, but he appeared to have shot himself, said Boston police spokeswoman Elaine Driscoll.
