Islamabad: An important National Assembly session would be held on Monday.
The session would be very crucial in the wake of Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s decision of quitting the government.
Sources said that aggressive speeches are expected from the lawmakers on the recent increase in petroleum products while the MQM would also file an application with the speaker for allotment of seats on the opposition benches.
Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani would meet PML-Q chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain to discuss the political situation emerged after MQM’s withdrawal from the government.
Earlier, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) parted its ways with the coalition government on Sunday. The decision came shortly after a hurriedly called meeting of MQM’s Coordination Committee, held at London and Karachi simultaneously.
The committee attributed its decision to recent increase in prices of petroleum products and “unjust taxation”.
The meeting unanimously decided to withdraw from the government and to sit on opposition benches in both the houses.
According to the decision, 25 MNA’s and six senators of the party would sit on opposition benches in both the houses while the decision of quitting the Sindh government would be taken later.
After the MQM’s decision, the PPP have lost its majority in both the houses of parliament and might lose chairmanship of the Senate as number of senators belonging to the ruling party and its coalition partners i.e. the ANP, PML-F and BNP Awami have shrunk to 48.
However, no party has announced to come up with motion of no-confidence in the lower house of parliament.
