KARACHI: The first Pakistan-born former mayor in America, Dr Mohammad Ali Chaudhry, has said that the down towards economy is the core issue behind the decreasing popularity of Obama regime. It was also the only reason of Democrats’ defeat in mid-term election.
During an interview at a local hotel in Karachi, the Southern costal city of Pakistan, he said that every person wants his job security and likes the ruler, who safeguards his interests.
Dr. Muhammad Chaudhry criticized the policies of President Obama in regard with increasing troops in Afghanistan and said that he wrote a letter to the President, demanding him to send some Greg Mortenson to Afghanistan, instead of armed personals. In his view president Obama had taken the decision under some political pressure.
He told The News Tribe that a part of international media particularly Fox News was responsible for creating hurdles and spreading negative impression of peaceful Muslim citizens in the United States.
Consequently, Muslim organisations filed a case against a radio programme ‘Savage Nation’ and launched a drive against it, as it was leading the baseless anti-Muslim propaganda in New Jersey. Resultantly, the channel faced a loss of millions of dollars in a few days, he recalled.
The scholar further said that after the incident of 9/11, Muslim community in the USA had to face bitter behavior of their neighbors. The attitude made the movement of Muslim women difficult in society.
Sikhs were also targeted because of their appearance as bear and turbans give them a look similar to Muslims. “At that time Churches and Christian religious organisations came forward and helped “, he said. Muslims in the USA are still facing discriminations in the society particularly when it is about jobs, he said.
He said that Muslims, who used to live in the US, have three options to behave with Western culture and lifestyle. One is Rejection, means to completely reject it, Second one is Integration, means to accept which is not objectionable and third one is similarity. In my opinion we should follow Integration, former mayor said.
Chaudhry said that new generation of Pakistani community in the US is fully equipped with all requirements of modern worlds. Interesting point is that the average educational results of Muslims are higher than inherited Americans.
“Pakistani parents in the US care more for teaching of values to their offspring as compared to those in Pakistan because of different social environment there in the US” , he added. He said further that new generation is busy like other Americans in their studies and other activities. “We are trying our level best to remind new generation, about their roots”, he said.
They do not have interest in Pakistani politics, however elders still have and they discuss Pakistan’s politics in gatherings, during which they send curse on Pakistani rulers, he said while smiling.
To a question about screening and other problems at airports, he replied that everyone is criticizing over screening at the US airports, President Obama has recently said that the government will soon review the policy of screening, he added.
“Though situation of corruption in the USA is totally different as compared to Pakistan, but corruption do exists there and their politicians and even mayors were also booked on charges of bribery,” Chaudhry concluded.
